Since the moment our lives fell apart, the only thing that mattered was making a good life for my son. A life where he was happy and safe. I just never expected to find that safety with a hockey player known for his brutal dominance on the ice and his recklessness off it.
But Cope Colson is so much more.
The gentle way he makes sure we’re okay. The playful care he shows my son. The way he truly sees me.
When my life comes apart yet again, it’s Cope picking up the pieces. Now, we’re living in his house, eating his incredible, chef-worthy meals, and it’s not just my son who’s falling.
It’s me.
Because when Cope touches me, I lose all sense. I’m no longer thinking about staying safe, I’m thinking about how my skin ignites with every glance, how I come undone with the barest brush of his fingertips, and when we give into temptation…I’m lost.
But Cope has secrets and so do I. And when the forces from our pasts emerge from the shadows, there’s nothing they won’t do to end our happiness once and for all…
My thoughts:
Broken Harbor has now claimed the top position in the Sparrow Falls series for me. Cope, Sutton, and Luca completely captured my heart. This book masterfully blended romance, suspense, humor, and poignant heartbreak into a perfect narrative mix.
Catherine Cowles has a true talent for painting such a vivid picture of a town that you never want to leave. While I’ve adored Sparrow Falls since the first book, this installment provided an even richer view, weaving in more of the community’s fabric. After reading this, I can’t imagine anyone not feeling an immediate desire to relocate to a small town in Oregon.
Cope, Sutton, and Luca might just be my new favorite characters in this series. Cope was the ideal tortured hero, using his bad-boy hockey persona as a shield. Sutton was a fiercely determined mother who knew what she wanted and refused to tolerate any nonsense. Though haunted by past hurts, her bravery shone through. Luca was utterly adorable in every way—and this is coming from someone who doesn’t always gravitate towards child characters in books. I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing more of Arden and am eagerly anticipating her story with Linc next. As for other characters deserving more page time? Lolli and Walter, without a doubt. I absolutely adore them.
Regarding the plot, the pacing was relentless. I was completely hooked, unable to put the book down, and constantly surprised by the twists and turns. My only minor critique is that a late plot twist felt somewhat unnecessary, seemingly added more for shock value than narrative substance. However, this is a small point in an otherwise fantastic read.
Overall, I highly recommend Broken Harbor. It has rekindled my love for the Sparrow Falls series, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.
