Leon
I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you’re dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I’m best at.Except her.The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed – I didn’t.The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I’m not about to lose my new toy to them.

Rae
I’ve always believed in the supernatural. Hunting for ghosts is my passion, but summoning a demon was never part of the plan. Monsters are roaming the woods, and something ancient – something evil – is waking up and calling my name.I don’t know who I can trust, or how deep this darkness goes. All I know is my one shot at survival is the demon stalking me, and he doesn’t just want my body – he wants my soul.

Her Soul to Take is book 1 in the Souls Trilogy. Although all the books are interconnected, they are stand-alone and can be read in any order.

my thoughts:

Harley Laroux was a completely new author to me, and Her Soul To Take marked my first experience with her writing. To say I was impressed would be an understatement.

The first books I truly fell in love with belonged to the paranormal romance genre. Over time, however, I found it increasingly difficult to connect with new PNR stories, feeling that most themes had already been explored. I had nearly given up on finding truly unique paranormal romances—until I discovered Harley Laroux, who has undoubtedly delivered a fresh and captivating narrative.

Leon, a demon held captive for centuries, is forced to serve a single family against his will. Without the grimoire that contains his true name, he remains powerless and controlled. But when this family—and consequently, Leon—sets their sights on Rae, everything begins to change.

Rae is an ordinary young woman with a deep fascination for the supernatural. She runs a YouTube channel dedicated to her explorations of ghostly phenomena and other unexplained occurrences. So, when the chance arises to delve into her new town’s dark history, she doesn’t hesitate. What she doesn’t realize is that this town’s past is far more sinister than she imagined—and her own family’s history is deeply entangled within it.

Both Rae and Leon captured my heart from the start. Rae is a fearless, no-nonsense character who’s easy to root for, while Leon is a dark and tormented being who, despite his grim experiences, retains a glimmer of humanity buried deep within. That said, Rae occasionally tested my patience. At times, she seemed to lack—or deliberately ignore—common sense, repeatedly placing herself in life-threatening situations throughout the story.

Beyond the compelling characters, world-building, and plot, it’s impossible to overlook the erotic elements in this book. This is genuine erotica—nothing is tame, and nothing fades to black. Harley Laroux brings the kink, and Leon, having lived for centuries, is experienced in every sense of the word. His tastes are twisted, and Rae is drawn to all he has to offer. While some of the kinks depicted are far from conventional, they are handled with care and written skillfully. Laroux has a talent for introducing non-mainstream themes in a way that feels natural and normalized.

Overall, Her Soul To Take is dark, twisted, and kinky in all the right ways. While I eagerly await the next installment in this trilogy, I’ll be diving into Harley Laroux’s backlist—there’s no doubt I’ve found a new favorite author.
