In WICKED PURSUIT by Katee Robert, a Little Red Riding Hood remix, a mob princess with a taste for doing things she shouldn’t acquires a stalker who will kill anyone who touches what’s his…
My thoughts:
“Wicked Pursuit” is that rare find – the book I never knew I was searching for. Katee Robert has masterfully reinvented twisted fairy tales, taking them to an entirely new level with this story.
Though a novella, “Wicked Pursuit” feels remarkably complete. Part of this depth comes from its setting in a world already established in Robert’s previous series. While reading those books isn’t necessary to enjoy this story, you’ll encounter numerous references to existing characters. This allowed the author to focus less on world-building and more on character development. Don’t misunderstand – you still get a strong sense of Carver City’s atmosphere, but it serves as background rather than the main focus.
Ruby, while flawed, completely won me over. Her sassy, bold personality and determination to pursue what she wants make her compelling. Her occasional impulsivity is what initially draws her into Wolf’s orbit. Without giving anything away, I’ll simply say Wolf embodies the perfect alpha male archetype.
The chemistry between them is absolutely electric. Every scene they share crackles with tension, and their intimate moments rank among the best I’ve encountered. Beyond the physical attraction, they complement each other beautifully, creating a balanced dynamic that left me craving more of their story.
The plot isn’t particularly complex, but that’s exactly what I expected going in. This story prioritizes character relationships over intricate plotting, though the narrative provides a solid foundation – particularly impressive for a novella – that could easily set up future series.
Overall, “Wicked Pursuit” delivers the perfect dark Disney stalker romance I never knew I needed. This book has inspired me to revisit Robert’s Wicked Villains series and explore more of the Black Rose Auction collection.
In essence: twisted retellings meet stalker romance. While definitely more focused on steam than plot, this standalone spinoff from the Wicked Villains series works perfectly on its own.
